First of all this is the situation is as follows: some annoying 'jack (or anything really) is engaging our fine artillery. They haven't really got a chant ce of getting rid of it by axe. The trick here is to employ the Take Up rule that weapon crews have. It basically allows you to remove one of the grunts instead of the artillery piece.
So declare a move and accept the free strike. First move both grunts (if necessary) and make sure that they stay within 1" of the artillery piece. Then move the artillery piece and accept the free strike (see figure to the left).
Assuming that the free strike kills the artillery piece (which is very likely), remove one of the grunts. The artillery piece is now free of engagement and ready to knock down the annoying opponent warjack (see figure to the right).
Cool trick I wish I had known earlier.
